Slow cloth, honest making
Batik is a wax-resist technique recognised by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Indonesia. Kawung & Co. is a fictional brand imagined for this demo: a small label that brings hand-drawn cloth from family workshops to homes abroad.

How a piece is made
1. Draw
The motif is sketched onto prepared cotton.
2. Wax
Hot wax is traced with a canting pen to resist dye.
3. Dye
Cloth is dipped, dried and re-waxed for each colour.
4. Finish
Wax is boiled off, then the cloth is washed and sewn.
